Assessment Of and For Student Learning

Informal assessment occurs often during first grade daily reading exercise.

Even though there are many learning styles among students, there are just as many assessment strategies available for teachers to incorporate. The purpose of the standard is for teachers to demonstrate the ability in obtaining various forms of data from their students in order to measure academic progress. The goal is for teachers to use data obtained from assessment to guide their instructional planning and delivery methods for short- and long-term student academic goals.

Multiple forms of Assessment

Accomplished teachers use assessment to see the learning diversity among their students in order to differentiate their instruction and focus on what each student needs to move forward academically. I use assessment to effectively guide my lesson plans ensuring all of my students are moving forward.  The data I obtain through various formative assessment allows me to choose the appropriate strategies, resources, and materials that are necessary for my short- and long- range planning.  Using multiple formative assessment works toward successful student achievement of the summative assessment at the end of units.

Using assessment for higher academic achievement

Using a proven assessment is one of the best ways a teacher can gather the data necessary to guide their instructional planning.  As a teacher, I will be using multiple assessment tools in order to tailor and differentiate my instruction to meet the needs of each student.  By utilizing data obtained from individualized assessment, I will be able to develop specific short-range goals within my lesson plans in order to reach their learning needs.
